FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – A Greenwood man wanted on several charges, including murder, was found and arrested in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., on Saturday after being on the run for more than 10 years.
According to a release from the U.S. Marshal Service, Keon Deal, 34, formerly of 502 Millwee St. was located at a home in Fort Lauderdale after developing information that Deal had changed his identity and was living in the area.
Operation Intercept, the U.S. Marshals led fugitive task force in South Carolina, worked in conjunction with the Greenwood County Sheriff’s Office to look into the whereabouts of Deal.  Operation Intercept reached out to U.S. Marshals in Florida with this information.  U.S. Marshals and Florida Regional Fugitive Task Force officers entered the residence and immediately arrested Deal.  Deal gave several fictitious names to U.S. Marshals, but later confessed that he was in fact the Deal for which authorities were searching.
According to a report from the Greenwood County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to Club Weekend, located at 2408 Hwy. 72/221 E., just after 2 a.m. on the morning of Nov. 11, 2002, in response to shots being fired. When they arrived, the parking lot had cleared. While searching the area for evidence, deputies were notified that two gunshot victims were in the emergency room, one with a wound to the leg and the other to the chest.
When investigators arrived at the hospital, they discovered that the man with the chest wound, identified as 51-year-old Lynn Lomax, had died from his injuries.
Investigators received information that Deal and Kendrick Dunlap had shot the two victims while attempting to shoot two other people at the club. Dunlap pleaded guilty voluntary manslaughter and assault and battery with intent to kill in Sep. 2008 in connection with the incident. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison and is currently incarcerated at McCormick Correctional Institution. His projected release date is Nov. 23, 2015, according to the South Carolina Department of Corrections.
Warrants were obtained on Deal for murder, assault and battery with intent to kill and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime in connection with the incident. More charges could be added once extradition is completed in relation to his 10 years on the run. There is currently no timetable for Deal’s return to Greenwood.
“The U.S. Marshals and their partnered agencies never give up on a case,” Kelvin Washington, the U.S. Marshal for South Carolina, said in a statement. “This case should be a lesson to anyone out there thinking about running from the law.  The diligence and determination exhibited in this case are something that the U.S. Marshals are proud of and I thank all agencies involved in working this case over the years.”
