He had a gun he probably obtained illegally, circumventing existing gun laws and background checks that would prevent this type of thing from happening. This is what law makers don't understand. There will always be a way for people to obtain a firearm, no matter how many laws you pass, no matter what list people are on, or how ever long they've been in prison. They will always find a way.
