Two men were charged after breaking into a man's home in Cherokee County who was asleep and then killed him, Sheriff Steve Mueller said.
Daniel Vaughan Eaton, 19 and Elijah Malik Thompson, 18 were charged in the shooting death of Marshall Lyles Cooper, Mueller said.
On Aug 9 at 1:15 a.m. deputies responded to Phelps Road in Blacksburg to a shooting with injuries, Mueller said.
Deputies found a woman who was shot in the arm and a man who was unresponsive from a gunshot wound. Cooper was pronounced dead at the scene.
The surviving victim told deputies three men busted through the mobile home door while they were sleeping.
They were shouting "Where was the dog" and "Where was the money and the weed," Mueller said.
The two people in the home said they told the men they didn't have any money.
Two suspects looked through each room while the other suspect held the victims at gunpoint, Mueller said.
The suspects fled the home when one of them with a pistol fired at least two rounds striking both of the victims.
Deputies arrested Thompson on Dec. 8, for receiving stolen goods, Mueller said. He was also charged with murder, attempted murder, first-degree burglary, attempted armed robbery, possession of a weapon during a violent crime and receiving stolen goods less that $2,000, Mueller said.
Deputies were able to track down the second suspect to Maryland and were able to arrested the wanted fugitive, Mueller said.
Daniel Eaton was arrested Thursday in Maryland and charged with murder, attempted murder, first-degree burglary, armed robbery with a deadly weapon and possession of a weapon during a violent crime, Mueller said.
If Eaton waives extradition, he could be back in Cherokee County within the next few says, Mueller said.
If he fights extradition, investigators will work with the solicitor's office to obtain a fugitive from justice warrant to have to fugitive extradited back to South Carolina to face his charges, Mueller said.
