After three days of searching and digging, law enforcement has completed the activities that have been taking place in the Greentown Community in connection with the 2009 disappearance of Brittanee Drexel, last seen leaving a Myrtle Beach hotel.
Don Wood of the Columbia office of the FBI spoke with reporters Sunday afternoon, announcing the work at that location on FoxFire Court was complete.
Wood did not say what, if anything, was found. He did say the investigation into the Drexel case was “advanced” as a result of the search.
“We have progressed,” he said.
Without giving any further explanation, Wood said authorities “made strides in bringing those responsible for Brittanee’s death to justice.” So far, no charges have been filed against anyone in connection with her case.
Is there a connection?
Wood was asked by GAB News about four men who were placed in the Georgetown County Detention Center by the U.S. Marshals Service on Friday — the same day the search began.
One of those men is Kerry Ontavic Taylor, age 23. He was placed in the Georgetown jail at 1:36 p.m. Friday.
According to a news article in the January 23, 2016, Post and Courier, Taylor was arrested in March 2015 on state trafficking charges.
The newspaper states the indictment against Taylor alleges he trafficked two of the minors and a woman from March 2014 until the time of his arrest. Taylor also allegedly filmed another minor in action for child-porn videos, according to the indictment.
It is unknown if there is a relationship between Kerry Taylor and Timothy Da'Shaun Taylor of McClellanville who was implicated in the case by the FBI last year.
Another man placed in the GCDC at 1:52 p.m. Friday was 24-year-old Da-Shun Shukur Curry.
This past October he pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit sex trafficking, according to a press release.
The release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office states Curry admitted to driving three girls to the North Charleston area, where they were prostituted, the release said. Two of the girls were trafficked between March and April 2014, according to the indictment filed in January. The third was trafficked between December 2013 and June 2014.
Ryan Shaquon Turner, age 24 was placed in the local jail at 3:14 p.m. Friday. He was indicted in Jan. 2016 with two counts of Sex Trafficking by Force, Fraud, and Coercion.
The fourth person transported to the GCDC Friday was Howard Alli Parker, age 25. His criminal history was unavailable Sunday.
Wood was asked if there is any connection between the search that began Friday and these four men being relocated to the GCDC on the same day?
“I have no comment on that,” he responded. When asked why the men were placed in the GCDC, Wood referred the question to the Marshals.
Wood was asked by another reporter if Timothy Da’Shaun Taylor was still a suspect in the case, Wood said he could not comment.
After the FBI and other agents had cleared the scene, the crime tape was removed, and reporters got a look at where the digging had been taking place.
The excavator was still there, and the small gravel road was covered with trash and other litter. There is a house that appears to have been abandoned for decades as it is extremely dilapidated and covered in trees.
