3 Dozen people in Oconee County have been Arrested in Connection with a Meth. Lab Investigation
Deputy's say 23 of 31 Suspects Wanted on Conspiracy to Manufacture Meth Charges for the Purchase or Attempted Purchase of Pseudoephedrine for the Purpose of Making Meth have either been Arrested or were already in Custody and Served with New Warrants.
The sheriff’s Office called The Bust, “Operation Smurf.” Smurfing is a term for when people get together and visit several stores to buy Pseudophedrine, which is used in the process of making meth. These people are usually paid in money or drugs.
The operation today is focusing on those individuals who have over the course of this year purchased Pseudoephedrine for the purposes of making methamphetamine. The purpose also is to focus on those individuals as well who are purchasing Pseudoephedrine for the purpose of giving the Drug to those who are Manufacturing ( Cooks ) Meth.”
