GREENEVILLE, Tenn. —
A man who was wanted on 14 charges in Asheville, North Carolina, was shot and killed by Tennessee officers when he fired at them inside an apartment, Tennessee Bureau of Investigation agents said.
Anthony Orlando Bowers was wanted by Asheville police after he was involved in a hit-and-run that cause serious injury to an officer on Dec. 7, 2018, police said.
Bowers had 14 outstanding warrants
Bowers had 14 outstanding warrants including :
- Assault on a law enforcement officer inflicting serious injury
- Assault with a deadly weapon on a government official
- Felony hit and run aausing serious injury/death
- No operators license
- Possession of marijuana up to 1/2 ounce
- Possession with intent to sell/distribute cocaine
- Possess stolen firearm
- Possession of firearm by felon
- Resisting public officer
- Flee/elude arrest with motor vehicle
- Reckless driving to endanger
- Manufacture, sell, distribute, possess controlled substance at a child care center
- Maintain vehicle/dwelling/place for controlled substance
- Possess stolen motor vehicle
On Tuesday, TBI agents released information regarding an officer-involved shooting that happened on Sunday in Greeneville, Tennessee.
Just before 11 p.m. officers with the Greeneville Police Department attempted to make a traffic stop on a vehicle that was speeding on Tusculum Boulevard.
The driver failed to stop and led officers on a pursuit.
The vehicle eventually stopped on Mason Street and he got out of the car and ran into a nearby apartment complex, TBI agents said.
Officers said a woman who was in the car identified him as Joshua Howard and said he lived with her in the apartment.
The woman took officers in the apartment and gave them consent to search for him, TBI agents said.
Officers identified themselves and found a second man who did not reside at the apartment, TBI agents said.
The man became combative, pulled out a gun on the officers and fired shots, TBI agents said.
Two of the officers were struck and returned fire, hitting the man who Asheville police confirmed was Bowers.
Bowers was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead, TBI agents said.
The officers were taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, TBI agents said.
