As a Nigerian now living in America, I find it amusing when Black Americans talk about returning to the motherland. Firstly, I wonder, to do what exactly? Let's discuss education: the average Nigerian possesses a college degree, and nowadays, many hold master’s degrees just to secure employment. So when a Black American expresses a desire to move to Africa, I ask, what job will support you with just a GED? In a typical African household, going to jail is almost seen as a taboo; families often want nothing to do with you. Therefore, for someone with a history of incarceration, or with family members who have been imprisoned, to say they want to return to Africa seems delusional.
Biracial woman here. I’ve lived in Zimbabwe with my husband for over a year now. One of the first things I said to him was that every woke black American needed to come here for for a few months and they’d learn to appreciate America. The blacks here think African Americans are insane for not appreciating their functioning government and system. They’d trade places in a heart beat.
