Drives to Florida For Treatment of Wounds

 07 / 10 / 2013

  SPARTANBURG, S.C.
A man was arrested after he sought treatment of gunshot wounds he got when a father caught him hiding in a bedroom in their Upstate home, deputies say.
Spartanburg deputies said two young adult women and their mother heard noises in their home on Duncan Reidville Road on June 26.  When they got up to investigate the sounds, they discovered a man hiding behind a bedroom door.
When one of the women shouted that she had a gun and was calling the police, the man climbed out of the same bathroom window he had used to get inside.
Several deputies arrived at the home, but were unable to locate the man.  Deputies said after they left the home, the man returned just before 6 a.m.
Deputies said by this time, the victims’ father was at the home and caught the man on the front porch peeping in the windows.
The father was armed with a pistol and attempted to detain the man, but he took off running as the father fired several shots at him.
Deputies said they identified 26-year-old Brian Joseph Troxtel as the suspect when he sent "unwanted and strange Facebook messages" to one of the victims and he matched the description of the intruder.
Further investigation found that Troxtel had fled Spartanburg County immediately after the incident and went to Lakeland, Fla., where he was treated at a hospital there for two gunshot wounds.
His appearance at that hospital led to law enforcement there becoming involved in the investigation.
