Ex - Police Chief Johnny Bannister of Westminister Arrested for Embezzlement

Former Upstate Police Chief Accused of Stealing City's Money ....

Johnny Bannister:  Accused of embezzlement, forgery and misconduct in office.


  The former police chief of Westminster is charged with embezzlement, forgery and misconduct in office, according to a release from the State Law Enforcement Division.
Johnny Scott Bannister, 45, is accused of stealing more than $100,000 in funds belonging to the city between January 2009 and July 2012, according to the arrest warrants.  He is also accused of forging a check in someone else's name for $1,400.
  SLED said the embezzlement charge is a felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison.  The
forgery charge carries a penalty of up to five years in prison, and the misdemeanor charge of misconduct in office has a penalty of up to a year in prison and a fine of up to $1,000.
Bannister was booked into the Oconee County Detention Center.  According Detention Center officials, Bannister's bond was set at $90,000 -- $30,000 dollars respectfully.
